
Maria Isabel Emiliano
Maria Isabel Emiliano (age 20) is a Dominican composer who currently resides in New York City. Her work delves into the junction of Latin folk traditions and classical music, fusing rhythmic. Maria’s pieces have been performed by prestigious ensembles such as the Arneis Quartet, JACK Quartet, and Kronos Quartet. She has attended programs such as the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the SoundSCAPE Festival, as well as being commissioned by the Kronos Quartet through Luna Lab and the Kennedy Center. In addition to concert music, Maria works across interdisciplinary areas to broaden the possibilities of sound and identity, including live visuals, performance art, and the construction of instruments out of unexpected materials. She founded the Toccata Quartet in the Dominican Republic and previously worked as the Music Librarian for the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra in New York.
