The Nebula Project, Vol. 2: Helix

At this event, ChamberQUEER will premiere new works by Luna Lab alumni Azalea Twining, Cecelia Olszewski, and Michelle David, as well as librettist Madeline Weisbeck, engaging with concepts of physical and metaphorical space, enclosure, perception, horror, and mysticism. The commissioned artists also serve as co-curators, shaping the themes of the evening and participating in the selection of pieces from fellow alumni from a call for scores. The program will also include compositions by Luna Lab alumni Olivia Bennett, Carolina Bragg, KiMani Bridges, Madeline Cheng, Devon Lee, Yuri Lee, and Mia Turakhia.

Virtual Masterclass with Mazz Swift

Mazz Swift is a neuro-emergent composer, conductor, bandleader, educator, singer, and Juilliard-trained violinist, weaving classic African American musics, electronica, and mindfulness into their music. Improvisation is a throughline in their practice across genres and instrumental configurations, and can be found in most of their works. Mazz will give a master class on violin techniques and perform excerpts of works by our 2025–26 fellows.

Virtual Masterclass with Jess Tsang

Jess Tsang is a percussionist, researcher, and improviser dedicated to the creation of new interdisciplinary works. Jess is a founding member of guitar and percussion duo party of one, and released sound shadows, her debut album for amplified bass drum, feedback, and objects, in 2021. Jess will lead a masterclass on percussion techniques and perform excerpts by our 2025-26 fellows.

Virtual Masterclass with Hildur Guðnadóttir

Academy Award-winning Hildur Guðnadóttir is an Icelandic composer, cello player, and singer who has been manifesting herself at the forefront of experimental pop and contemporary music. In her solo works she draws out a broad spectrum of sounds from her instrument, ranging from intimate simplicity to huge soundscapes. Hildur will lead a masterclass and explore topics related to composition and inspiration with our 2025-26 fellows.

Virtual Masterclass with Camila Barrientos Ossio

Camila Barrientos Ossio is the principal clarinetist of the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de São Paulo and the co-founder and artistic director of the Bolivian Chamber Music Society. As an orchestral musician, she’s performed with the New York Philharmonic, and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, among others. Camila will lead a masterclass exploring clarinet techniques, and perform excerpts by our 2025-26 fellows.

Virtual Master Class with Clara Warnaar

Percussionist and composer Clara Warnaar tends towards interdisciplinary projects, actively playing and commissioning new music. In addition to being a member of the Contemporary Ensemble, Clara has appeared as a guest artist with Yarn/Wire, the Bang on a Can Orchestra, and Ensemble Signal, and also has a solo ambient project and is the drummer for the band, Infinity Shred. Clara will gives a master class on percussion techniques and perform excerpts of works by our 2024–25 fellows.

Virtual Master Class with Marion Newman

Marion Newman is one of Canada’s most accomplished singers, with operatic roles like Carmen, Rosina, and Shanawdithit, and more. She is also a voice faculty member at the University of Victoria and host of CBC’s Saturday Afternoon at the Opera. Marion will lead a masterclass on vocal techniques, sharing insights from her experience and performing short excerpts by our 2024–25 fellows.

As part of our ongoing partnership with ChamberQUEER, Brooklyn-based artist and multi-instrumentalist performer Aviva Jaye joins us for a conversation and workshop on her career as a composer and collaborator. Aviva will speak about her background, career in the arts, and perform short excerpts written by our 2023–24 fellows for folk/lever harp and voice. Join composer and Luna Lab Program Manager, Aeryn Jade Santillan for a workshop on the basics of integrating electronics in compositions.
