Luna Lab’s 2021–2022 season concludes in an expanded, in-person Festival that will function as a belated celebration of the program’s fifth anniversary, opening its doors to both current Fellows and alumni. Festival highlights will include:
- Solar Flare, the culminating performance of premieres by the 2021–2022 Fellows, featuring student musicians from the city’s top pre-college music programs: Juilliard Pre-College, Manhattan School of Music Pre-College, Mannes Prep at The New School, Special Music School High School, and Face the Music.
- The first ever Luna Composition Lab Alumni Showcase, highlighting the tremendous growth of the Lab’s graduates. Presented in collaboration with the International Contemporary Ensemble, at New York Public Radio’s The Greene Space.
- Panels and masterclasses with leaders in the field, including: an opera composition panel with Missy Mazzoli, Valerie Coleman and soprano Brandie Inez Sutton; masterclasses with Kronos Quartet, New York Philharmonic principal clarinetist Anthony McGill, and visual and sonic artist Jules Gimbrone; a vocal improvisation workshop with mentor and jazz vocalist Dawn Norfleet, and field trips to concerts around New York City for Fellows and alumni.
